Adopting ecosystemic approach and architectural layering for innovation is a proven and strategic approach to complexity management; as well to achieving specialization of skill/knowledge sectors for increased efficiency, flexibility, and scalability. Through the Knowledge Habitat model, the Maple Tree project aims for a robust framework that supports sustained innovation, greater adaptation to change, and the fostering of a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
In abstract modeling, layering refers to the practice of breaking down a complex system into multiple layers of abstraction. Layering provides a modular and organized way to simplify and represent complex systems. It also enables a better better communication between system workgroups.
By abstracting away the complexities of the layers below it, it shows how each layer builds upon the one below and how all layers relate with each other in a hierarchical manner., This in turn allows for better streamlined project coordinations as well as more lucid collaborations amongst workgroups. Equally important, layetring enables for a better over-all management steering,of the ecosystem by providing the mechanisms to manipulate all system components at once.
